What Do Buzzards and Proposals Have in Common?

Well, really nothing - except for Veronica and Eric’s proposal at Fall Creek Falls State Park in Middle Tennessee, he wanted a spectacular view. And a spot called Buzzard’s Roost fit that bill!

Now, I am not going to lie: I HATE heights. But as the noted photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt once said, “When I have a camera in my hand, I know no fear.” So, I put on abrave face and stood near a sheer drop to capture these two lovely people start a new chapter in their lives.

Both Eric and Veronica are soldiers in the US Army and hail from Florida, where you are just not going to find terrain such as this. Kudos to veronica - she just graduated with her Associates Degree and Eric is finishing up his, as both plan their post-service lives back in their home state. Before leaving, however, Eric planned a trip for them from their post at Fort Campbell to visit Tennessee. And boy, they were driving all over! When Eric told me his plans and that they were not staying as one might expect in the Smokies, I set out to find him something unique and memorable.

For the record: if you visit Fall Creek Falls State Park, get on the Scenic Loop Road. Not far from its start is Millikan’s Overlook. If you walk towards the right, you will see a trail marked by a blue blaze on a tree. Head down that, following the blue blazes, and that will bring you to Buzzard’s Roost. And yes, at Buzzard’s Roost you will be able to see how flippin’ far you will fall if you misstep, so if you have a fear of heights . . . well, Millikan’s Overlook provides a lovely view.

Congratulations to Veronica and Eric - and thank you for your service (go Army)! May the years ahead bring you success in your new civilian lives together, and love and health in your home!

Kudos to Veronica for climbing down to the Piney Falls Overlook in heels!
